From John Schmitt: Thank You To the Volunteers Of The Last Fling

This weekend we will say goodbye to summer and celebrate the achievement of American workers through the observance of Labor Day. Naperville’s annual celebration, The Last Fling, is always a highlight of my summer calendar. I would like to take a moment and thank all the volunteers and sponsors who contribute to the Naperville Jaycees over the entire year to help put this festival on.

Illinois is nearly bankrupt. For years, the state has spent beyond its means and ignored its unpaid bills and obligations. For FY2011, Illinois faces a projected budget deficit of $14-15 Billion and total debt of around $160 Billion. On Monday, August 23, the Chamber welcomed Miles White and Eden Martin of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago to discuss the Illinois Is Broke Coalition. To learn more about what you can do to get involved, please take advantage of the Chamber's resources throughout our website.

Committee Spotlight: Not-For-Profit Network, A Letter from the NFP Network Chair

During the past year, I have been honored to be the Chair of the Not For Profit (NFP) Network. Although I work daily with our local non-profits in my role as Executive Director of Giving DuPage, working more closely with our area agencies through the NFP Network has been illuminating. There is a tremendous amount of great work being done by these organizations and the generosity of our community to share their time, talent and resources with these NFPs is awe-inspiring.
